Even disastrous wars like World War I and II did not affect so many countries at the same time. Different countries are at different stages in tackling the Coronavirus. On the medical front, it looks like we will soon reach the end of the pandemic – thanks to the several clinical trials underway for a vaccine.

However, the pandemic is far from over on the economic front. The Covid-19 pandemic has put an end to the current world order that began in the early 90s. China, often referred to as the world’s factory is no longer considered a trustworthy ally.

Currently, one-third of global manufacturing originates from China. There is a growing distrust for China among major superpowers like the US and Japan. Even before the Coronavirus outbreak, the US started engaging in a cold war with China by imposing trade tariffs. The Covid-19 pandemic originating in China and the country’s initial mishandling of the pandemic has further increased the distrust for China among the global superpowers.

Additionally, the drawbacks of over depending on Chinese factories in global supply chains were exposed during the Covid-19 outbreak. As a result, a large number of major economies are looking to diversify their global supply chain. Even companies that are reluctant to move out of China are looking to expand elsewhere.

Recently, the Chinese forces have flexed their muscles in Ladakh, the South China Sea, and the Indian Ocean. The escalating geopolitical tensions between China and its neighbours are further accentuating this shift.

The Japanese government recently announced several incentives for Japanese companies looking to shift base from China. Besides, several countries, including India, are unhappy with how the Chinese government has been making profits from the pandemic by acquiring the shares of stressed companies in Asia and the rest of the world.

Many of the world’s developed nations are uncomfortable with the idea of a Chinese-dominated global order. Countries don’t want to rely on China for their goods. This presents a huge opportunity for India – an emerging superpower in Asia and the one best suited to overtake China’s position as a global manufacturing hub.

The Silver Lining of the Crisis: India Moving from Survival to Revival

India has several strategic advantages to emerge as the next big global manufacturing hub. A large domestic consumption market developed capital, skilled, cheap, and diversified workforce, and above all, a stable democratic setup – make India the best choice for global manufacturers in the current scenario.

India has already demonstrated to the world that it’s world-class in several sectors. The IT services industry in the country is one of the best in the world. It supplies a vast majority of the workforce to Silicon Valley. Besides IT services, India is also a world leader in auto parts manufacturing, pharma, and engineering.

While these are inherent factors that work in India’s favour, the country is also refining several other factors to help it achieve its goal of manufacturing excellence.

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, recently highlighted the importance of “Aatmanirbhar (self-reliance)” and urged citizens to be “vocal about local.” The country is poised to become self-reliant, along with a commitment to global welfare.

If we look at history, we can see that manufacturing is the key to prosperity. England was able to achieve world dominance in the 19th century due to industrialisation. In the 20th century, countries like Germany, USA, and Japan emerged as developed economies due to their rapid industrialisation. Recently, countries like Taiwan, Korea, and China have transitioned from emerging economies to developed nations thanks to their manufacturing process.

India is set to chart its manufacturing growth with the help of several factors like technology, a resilient workforce, and a favourable political environment. India is taking several measures to attract foreign investments. Recent investments made by Facebook and Google demonstrate the trust of global players in India. Recently Apple announced that it’s looking to expand its manufacturing line in India.

While it’s true that several factors work in India’s favour, there’s no denying that timely reforms are needed – especially in labour and land. However, there is a sense of urgency among all sections of the society to transform India’s narrative from “survival” to “revival” in the post-Covid-19-era.

Like other big crises, the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic will have a long-lasting impact on the global order. While there’s no denying the tragic human loss due to the pandemic, we need to move forward to emerge stronger. India is headed in the right direction, by leveraging the power of technology and human capital to emerge stronger in the world of tomorrow.

Moving Forward – How India can fill the void left by China and Emerge as a Global Manufacturing Hub https://www.aloktools.com/global-manufacturing-hub/ Wed, 20 May 2020 08:06:48 +0000 https://www.aloktools.com/?p=97763 Over the last few decades, China has always been the hardware capital of the world, while India was considered as the software hub. But, with the Corona pandemic and trade wars with the US, a large number of corporations are looking to shift their base out of China.

What does this signify for India? Will we be able to overtake China as the manufacturing capital of the world? What should the government do to accelerate the momentum? Will our nation emerge as the next manufacturing hub of the world? Let’s find out now.

Even before the outbreak of the Coronavirus, several corporations have been moving out of China and looking to set up manufacturing plants elsewhere. In 2019, Samsung, the South Korean mobile manufacturer, set up its biggest factory at Noida. Nearly 30% of the phones manufactured here will be exported globally. Industry experts predicted that the Samsung factory set up in Noida will do what Maruti did to the Indian automobile industry in the 1990s.

In the 90s, when Maruti collaborated with Suzuki, the automobile manufacturing industry witnessed a massive transformation. It’s expected that this new setup by Samsung will create a similar upward trajectory for electronics manufacturing.

India poised to become a Manufacturing Super Power.

manufacturing-super-power

According to a recent study by Deloitte, India is expected to move upwards six ranks to reach No.5 in 2020 for Predicted Manufacturing Competitiveness. Several factors work in India’s favour.

The number one – labour costs in India are significantly low. The labour cost in the manufacturing sector in India was $1.72/hour in 2015. For the same period, the labour cost in the US was a whopping $37.96/hour. Even the labour cost in China is double that of India.

Secondly, the Indian government has set aggressive targets to make India fill the void left by China. Recently, Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, has urged various state governments to put in place various initiatives to woo manufacturers moving out of China. Additionally, the government wants to increase the volume of manufacturing to account for 25% of the GDP by 2025.

Third, India is on the cusp of witnessing the Fourth Industrial Revolution. We have already seen convergence between manufacturing and digital in various industries. Emerging technologies like automated sensors, machine learning, predictive analysis, IoT, robotics are slowly being introduced in multiple sectors. Thanks to various innovations like automation in real-time monitoring and 3D printing, the cost of production has come down significantly. India has recently received several grants and incentives from the European Union, UK, UAE, and Australia for investing in various technologies in manufacturing.

What needs to be done? A Road Map for the Way Forward

global-tool-manufacturing-hub

While several factors are working in our favour, the Indian government, along with the private sector, has to work in helping us become the next manufacturing superpower. To start with, we need to replicate best practices from other developed countries, including China, to improve our ranking on the competitiveness scale. Incentives for companies looking to set up manufacturing plants in India will also help.

The next step is to focus our efforts on increasing the scale of manufacturing in India. This cannot be done by just catering to the domestic market alone. We need to start manufacturing for the global market as well. To do these, we need a robust manufacturing policy that offers various incentives for manufacturing firms.

The ease of doing business is another crucial factor that will play a massive role in making India an alternate manufacturing hub. Recently, India saw a drop in this factor, and right now, we occupy the 100th Rank in the World Bank’s ease of doing business index. We need to work on improving this ranking.

Besides the ranking, global investors will consider several other parameters before they set up base in the country. So, each state needs to work on improving individual metrics to make it easy for global corporations to begin operations.

Another deciding factor is the cost of logistics. According to a World Bank report, the cost of transporting cargo in India stands at Rs. 2.28 per tonne of freight by road, Rs. 1.41 by rail and around Rs. 1.90 when using inland and ocean waterways. By improving our road and rail connectivity, as well as ports, India can lower the logistics costs significantly. This could help in attracting more foreign investments.

Another area where we need to improve is enforcing contracts. Currently, India ranks 164 among 190 countries on enforcing contracts. To give a comparison, it takes nearly four years to resolve a dispute in India. In contrast, in Singapore, problems are resolved within six months.

If we are to make the best out of this ongoing crisis and emerge as an alternate manufacturing hub for China, we need to focus on these areas. Additionally, by accelerating innovation, driving cost-competitiveness, we can attract global manufacturing firms.

At Alok Tools, one of the leading manufacturer and exporter of tools in India, we are ready to meet this challenge. Our products are manufactured to global standards, and we export our tools to several countries across the globe. Now, that you’ve chosen your supplier, the next step is to find the right distribution channel. Here, in this week’s guide – we help you find the right distribution channel to transport your imported tools and other goods from Indian shores to your doorstep.

First things first,

What is a Distribution Channel?

partnering-with-a-tool-manufacturing-company-in-indiaA distribution channel refers to the network that moves a product from the manufacturer to the end-user. The distribution channel is referred to as “direct” when the manufacturer sells the product directly to the customer without using a middleman. It’s an “indirect channel” when there are several intermediaries involved.

Some of the intermediaries involved in the distribution channel include:

  • Distributor/wholesaler
  • Dealer
  • Consultant
  • Retailer
  • Manufacturer representative

How to Choose the Right Distribution Channel for your Imported Products?

Choosing a distribution channel involves plenty of forethought and strategic planning. There are several factors to consider. What works for one person may not work for another company. Here are a few factors that you need to consider:

1. Nature of the Product

partnering-with-a-tool-manufacturing-companyIt all starts from here. Perishable goods like eatables, beverages and other products with a short expiry date require speedy movement. On the other hand, for standardized goods like durables, the speed of the distribution channel is not a matter.

When it comes to custom-designed products, direct distribution from the manufacturer to the industrial is the most preferred choice. Similarly, products of high unit value are not sent via regular distribution channels but delivered in person via traveling sales forces.

2. Market

tool-manufacturer

  • If you’re dealing with consumer products, then you need to have a retailer. On the other hand, if you’re dealing with B2B products, the retailer can be eliminated from the distribution channel.
  • Coming to the market size, larger markets require multiple channels, whereas smaller markets are more profitable with direct selling.
  • Additionally, the frequency and size of customer orders also matter in choosing the distribution channel.

3. Middlemen

Distribution-partnerThese are people who occupy the middle of the distribution channel. They are the intermediaries between the supplier and the end-customer.

While choosing a distribution channel, look for middlemen who offer marketing services as well as maximum co-operation.

Other Distribution Channel Considerations

tool-manufacturers

  • Do end-users prefer touching and examining the product before making a purchase? Or can the product be purchased online without the need for a close examination?
  • What are the regulations – local, regional and international – for distributing the particular product category?
  • Do customers need personalized services at the last step of the customer journey?
  • Does the product require frequent servicing?
  • Does the product need to be installed at the customer’s place or can it be operated directly by the end-customer?
  • What is the general style of distribution for this particular product?

Remember that the distribution channel plays a crucial role in ensuring that the product reaches the customer on-time. Additionally, the distribution channel you choose will have an impact on the end-pricing. If a distribution channel has plenty of touchpoints before it reaches the consumer, then it needs to be sold at a marked-up price so that everyone involved in the sale can make a profit.

In a multi-tier distribution channel, there are plenty of customers. Let’s explain this clearly,

  • The manufacturer’s customer is the regional distributor
  • The regional distributor’s customer is the dealer
  • The dealer’s customer is the retailer
  • The retailer’s customer is the end-customer

Everyone in this channel – from the manufacturer to the retailer has to make a profit from the sale.

We hope this gives you a general picture of the distribution channel scenarios in product sourcing from India.

So, make sure to consider several factors like – machine condition, grease degradation or contamination, to identify the correct frequency of greasing.

Monitor and Adjust Lubrication Effectiveness

Monitor and Adjust Lubrication Effectiveness

Once you have selected the right grease, chosen the right lubrication tool, and identified the right lubrication frequency, the next step is to monitor the effectiveness of your lubricants during operation. There are several ways to test lubrication effectiveness.

One common method is ultrasonic monitoring. By monitoring and tracking sounds generated by the equipment during operation, you can determine the condition of the bearings and make the right adjustments to achieve precise lubrication.

Another method is grease analysis. This involves collecting a sample of grease and then using advanced techniques to determine the effectiveness of lubrication. Just like oil analysis, grease analysis will help in extending the life of the machinery.

10 Essential Points to Know about Air Tools https://www.aloktools.com/10-essential-points-to-know-about-air-tools/ Fri, 08 Feb 2019 10:29:19 +0000 https://www.aloktools.com/?p=77734 Are you looking to add the latest range of innovative air tools from Ozar Toku to your warehouse? Check out some useful facts that help you get the most out of your pneumatic tools. Alok tools is one of the best pneumatic tools suppliers in India.

1. A smaller air tool doesn’t mean it uses lesser air

lesser-air

Just because the air tool you have purchased fits compactly in the palm of your hand, it doesn’t mean it uses lesser air. Any spinning air tool, irrespective of its size, requires air flow to move the parts inside. While it’s true that a small composite impact wrench requires lesser air flow that a heavier counterpart, it still requires enough air.

To understand the air flow required for the tool, make sure to look up the specification of the tool in the user manual. Look for the CFM or me/min number to match with a relevant compressor.

2. Invest in a 20% larger air compressor that what you require

Shopping for air compressors – especially figuring out the right size – can be challenging. Most semi-industrial air compressors have only 60 to 80% duty cycle. This means approximately for every 10 minutes of run time, you need to allocate at least 4 minutes for the compressor to cool down. The cooldown time depends on other external factors like humidity, room temperature and so on.

Here’s a rule of thumb to make compressor shopping easy – start by listing the air tools you will be using. Consider the CFM air usage and then add around twenty per cent to it. This way, you get a compressor with 20% extra air than required. This helps you to use it comfortably for heavy usage while allowing sufficient time for cool down between workloads.

3. DIY compressors don’t work in the Long Run

While shopping air compressors, you may be tempted to pick the cheapest one out there. However, this approach will not help you save money in the long run. Smaller compressors from unknown brands usually have lower duty cycles and don’t last long enough.

Make sure to choose an air compressor from a reputed brand to get the optimum usage from your air tools.

4. Air Pressure is Crucial for the Operation of Air Tools

While operating air tools, you need to ensure that your compressor provides the right air pressure required by the specific tool. All Ozar Toku air tools come with input air pressure specifications. Overdoing this pressure could lead to the quality and performance of your pneumatic air tool getting affected.

Ensure that you adhere to the recommended air pressure for optimal performance of the air tool.

5. Use Air Tools with the Right Filters

Airline filters also known as water traps are essential for the proper functioning of pneumatic tools. These filters remove most of the trapped moisture from the air. This prevents moisture build-up inside the tool, thereby preventing rust.

Additionally, air tools also require lubrication just like regular electric tools. Make sure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions while lubricating your tools.

6. Air leakage could cost you money

Ensure that your air tools don’t have air leaks. Air leaks not only reduce the performance of your air tool but also cost you increased power to run the compressor and can even affect compressor lifetime.

With Ozar Toku air tools, you don’t have to worry about air leakage and other problems. Our range of pneumatic tools is made using state-of-the-art technology and high-grade materials, with precise Japanese engineering techniques. So, you don’t have to worry about air leaks and other operational problems.

7. Make the Air Hose Longer, instead of Extending the Compressor Wire

Very often, in an attempt to increase the mobility of air compressors, factory workers and machine operators extend the power hose of the compressor. However, this is an unsafe practice, and it’s recommended that you don’t extend the power cord of the compressor by more than 10 to 15 metres. Extending the length of the power cable beyond this isn’t recommended.

So, are there any other ways to increase mobility? Yes, you can extend the air hose, as there are no restrictions for it. With a longer air hose, you can easily increase the mobility of the of the air compressor, thereby providing air flow access throughout the workshop.

For instance, if you have a stationary large air compressor, you can install it in a well-lit, well-ventilated area in the workshop. You can then add long air hoses from the compressor to reach all corners of the workspace. If you are looking to extend the life of the air hose, then use hoses with inner copper tubing instead of the commonly used heavy duty air hoses.

8. Air Tools offer Several Benefits compared to Regular Power Tools

Here are some of the top benefits of using pneumatic air tools:

  • Lightweight. No need to carry around heavy tools.
  • Safe – as you don’t require any electrical supply for the tool usage
  • Higher power to weight ratio. This means you can easily use smaller, lightweight tools for the same task.
  • Pneumatic tools last longer than conventional electric tools.

For other reasons to switch to pneumatic tools check out our blog post.

9. Pneumatic Tools are Cost-Effective in the Long Run

While investing in an air compressor for your pneumatic tool may seem like a huge initial cost, air tools are cheaper in the long run. Think about your massive energy savings. With increasing energy bills, especially for commercial and industrial usage, running electric tools regularly is expensive. On the other hand, apart from the initial cost of the tool and the compressor, air tools don’t have any other ongoing expenses. Also, they last for a long time, making them more cost-effective in the long run.

10. Wide Range of Air Tools

There’s a common misconception that air tools are limited in their functionality. At Alok Tools, we have a wide range of pneumatic tools that are suitable for several applications. Click here to download our product catalogue and pick the right air tools for you.

We hope we have cleared the air about air tools (pun intended). For any further queries, reach out to one of our sales representatives here.

Is India Poised to Become the Next Manufacturing Hub of the World? https://www.aloktools.com/is-india-poised-to-become-the-next-manufacturing-hub-of-the-world/ Thu, 24 Jan 2019 10:26:17 +0000 https://www.aloktools.com/?p=77513
Alok Tools – A Pioneer in the Modern Manufacturing Story of India
India is on the threshold of major economic growth and is all set to become the world’s third largest economy by 2030. A tech-savvy education population, availability of skilled labour, plentiful resources and a strong commitment to liberalization – the Indian manufacturing sector has come a long way, since independence.

Strengths of Indian Manufacturing

India today has emerged as a destination that can no longer be overlooked by overseas investors and global importers. From the early industrialization to the license raj era to liberalization, and the current era of global competitiveness, Indian manufacturers are formidable global competitors today.

As the sixth largest and the world’s fastest growing economy, India has a diverse and large manufacturing sector that accounts for 17% of the country’s GDP and provides total employment of 15%.

The traditional strengths of Indian manufacturing include – a young, skilled and large workforce, rich pool of English speaking engineers, researchers and product developers, cost competitiveness, and bountiful natural resources.

In the Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index published in 2016, India ranked 11th among the 40 countries on the list. The study projects that India is poised to move up several places and take the 5th spot globally by 2020.

A series of initiatives by the Government of India is propelling Indian manufacturing in the right direction. Start-Up India, Make-in-India, and structural reforms to taxation and IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) have boosted the optimism for Indian manufacturing in the global arena.

What’s Pulling Indian Manufacturing Behind?

With that said, Indian businesses still struggle to make it big in the global arena. They lose out their competitive edge to the other bigger players – like China and Korea. The contribution of Indian manufacturing to the overall GDP has remained flat since the economic liberalization of the 90s. This is a sharp contrast to other developing nations like South Korea, China, and Thailand – where manufacturing contributes to around 30% of the economy.

For years, India has primarily been a service-oriented industry. While we are global leaders in IT and other services, we are still lagging behind our Asian neighbours when it comes to manufacturing. The key to a nation’s economic success is based on the power of the manufacturing sector in the country.

Factors like lack of adequate infrastructure, improper alignment with global supply chains, procedural delays, bureaucratic red tape, legal delays, and inadequate innovation – are the top reasons for the poor growth in Indian manufacturing.

Innovation in Indian Manufacturing – The Need of the Hour

Industrialization plays a vital role in boosting the economic growth of many countries, by boosting innovation and creating a plethora of jobs. This is the main reason for the massive economic boost of several Asian countries like China, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, and others.

According to a report by the World Economic Forum, nearly 70% of income variations among countries is mainly because of differences in product export levels. However, the traditional industrial model that propelled nations into economic prosperity is now being challenged.

The Era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution

The modern industries of today seamlessly integrate physical and digital spaces to create an integrated production system. Advanced technologies like AI, IoT, robotics, the blockchain, additive manufacturing are changing the very face of manufacturing. The future success of a country depends on how well the manufacturing sector can adapt and adopt these innovations.

This is where India has an incredible opportunity to leapfrog to the next stages of economic growth by gearing up our manufacturing sector for the future. Investing in the right skills, adopting innovation in frameworks, paving the path for institutional partnerships and setting up the right policy frameworks will all help to usher in Indian manufacturing to the future.

Step 2 – Choose the Right Type of Supplier

The next step is to choose the right type of supplier. Here are a few major categories of supplier types. Go through the descriptions of each supplier to pick the one that suits your business style.

  • Manufacturers – These are people who actually make the product. Some manufacturers sell products directly to customers, while others sell only to their network of distributors. Generally, manufacturers require you to purchase high minimum orders from them. If you’re likely to make bulk purchases, then this is a great option, as it helps you save money in the long run. However, if you aren’t likely to make bulk purchases, then you can consider purchasing from intermediaries or distributors.

Here, at Alok Tools, we manufacture a wide range of industrial tools, precision tools, cutting tools, air tools, lubrication tools and more. The best part – we ship in bulk as well as in small quantities. Get in touch with our sales team to know more.

  • Distributors – They are middlemen, who purchase from manufacturers and sell to brick-and-mortar and other online stores. They buy in bulk and resell in smaller quantities.
  • Importers, Foreign Companies and Import Agents – Very often, you get better deals and better products when you buy products from overseas. Import companies and import agents help you land some incredible foreign deals and also act as the local, domestic distributor for the offshore manufacturers.

While importers are an easy way to purchase internationally, they may charge high fees for their services. If you’re ready to scout around and handle the import requirements on your own, then you can skip connecting with import agents and purchase directly from overseas manufacturers.

  • Drop Shippers – Drop shippers are similar to resellers. They buy products from manufacturers and send to clients. The major difference is that they ship products directly to your clients. For more details on drop shipping and whether it’s ideal for your business, check out our last blog post.

Step 3 – Find the Right Supplier

There are thousands of suppliers out there. Once you have figured out the products to purchase, the type of suppliers who suit your business style, the next step is to find the right supplier. Here are a few ways in which you can zero in on the best supplier for your business.

  • Trade Shows – One of the right places to find reliable wholesale suppliers is at trade shows. You get first-hand knowledge about the supplier and their business model from one-on-one conversations with their sales representatives. Additionally, you also gain valuable insight into the company, and you get an opportunity to compare the company with their competitors.
  • Trade Magazines – These are another efficient way to find the right suppliers. Make sure that you subscribe to high-quality trade magazines specific to your industry. While it isn’t possible to judge a company by ads, you get to know a lot from their marketing messages and more.
  • Peers – These are other people who are in the same business as you. They can help you connect with first-rate suppliers from across the globe. Online forums are a great way to exchange opinions, ideas, and
  • Online Searches – You can judge a supplier’s credibility by taking a look at their online presence. All reliable suppliers have a good, user-friendly website and easy to find communication channels.

Step 4 – Negotiate Terms

Now, that you’ve decided on the supplier, you come to the crucial step of the process – negotiating terms of the agreement. Remember, that reliable wholesale suppliers are looking to build long-lasting relationships with their partners. So, if a supplier doesn’t answer your queries and concerns, then you need to be wary of them.

While negotiating terms, here are a few questions to consider:

  • Shipment terms and who has to pay for the shipment
  • Payment time and mode of payment
  • The credit they are willing to provide you
  • How quickly will they dispatch the products once you place the order?
  • And so on.

Make sure to run all the possible what-if scenarios with the prospective supplier before signing the deal.

Final Step by Alok Tools – Focus on Building Long-Term Business Relationships

Developing a good rapport with your wholesale tool supplier is essential for the success of your business. You need to have the confidence that they will provide you with the right help at the right time. A wholesale supply isn’t a one-time process. It happens continuously. So, make sure to focus on building relationships in the long term.

Avoid Common Trading Mistakes To Safely Navigate The Waters Of International Trade https://www.aloktools.com/8-common-trading-mistakes-to-avoid-to-safely-navigate-the-waters-of-international-trade/ Thu, 18 Oct 2018 05:58:12 +0000 https://www.aloktools.com/?p=77456 Alok Tools-Tools Manufacturers in India helps you to know about the common mistakes, most new businesses make while importing or exporting goods. As a wise man once said, “a regular businessman learns from his mistakes, while a smart businessman learns from the mistakes of others.”

To gain an edge over your competitors and provide your customers with the best products at highly competitive prices, you’ll have to consider importing and exporting. In today’s globalized world, import and export is indeed a lucrative business venture. However, it’s essential that you set it up it right, to ensure that your business proceeds on the right track, without any glitches.

Here, in this post, Alok Tools show you a list of common mistakes, so that you can avoid them:

Mistake #1: Not Staying Updated with Import/Export Regulations

Very often, business owners falsely assume that they can import/export anything from a foreign nation. However, the truth cannot be further from that. There are plenty of regulations and other laws to consider. And, with trade laws and rules changing constantly, you need to ensure that you stay updated with all the regulations, so you don’t end up making a costly mistake.

Before you import or export a particular product, make sure that your country allows it. Failing to abide by these regulations, can lead to your shipments getting seized or getting fined. So, make sure that you stay updated with all the regulations so that you don’t end up losing money or your commodities.

Mistake #2: Failing to Keep Record of all Transactions

Make sure that all products you import or ship, every sale you make are duly recorded and accounted. When it comes to import/exports, tax rules are stricter. So, make sure that you have records of all transactions, so that you can prove your compliance to the taxmen if they come calling.

Mistake #3: Failing to Consider Exchange Rate Fluctuations

2018 has been a highly volatile year, and plenty of currencies worldwide have seen a huge dip. Fluctuating exchange rates impact your bottom line either positively or negatively. From the time you start negotiating the prices to the shipping and eventual delivery of the goods, the value of the currencies (of both the seller and the buyer) could fluctuate. This causes one party to enjoy a higher profit while causing the other party to face huge losses.

To avoid this, make sure to consult your bankers as for the best course of action and then form an agreement, considering all the risks involved.

Mistake #4: Failing to Conduct a Background Check of the Supplier

Before you proceed to pay for the goods, make sure that you’ve got detailed information about the supplier.

Here are a few questions to ask while evaluating suppliers:

  • Does the supplier have an online presence (website, social media presence, blogs, etc.)
  • Is the supplier listed on public, global trading platforms?
  • How long has the supplier been in operation?
  • Does the supplier have the rights to sell the product?
  • Have you read reviews about the supplier from authentic sources?
  • Are there sufficient product images?
  • Is the supplier ready to send you samples?
  • Have you checked further information about the supplier at other regulatory organizations?

Failure to do sufficient background research on the supplier could lead to trouble. Make sure to read our article on finding the best global suppliers for your business.

Mistake #5: Resorting to Shortcuts

It may be tempting to use shortcuts to cut corners. Bribes and other methods of corruption may help you in the short-term but lead to trouble in the long-term. So, don’t resort to any unscrupulous business practices.

Mistake #6: Failing to decide on the Mode of Payment Upfront

Have you decided on the method and time of payments? Should you pay for the goods on arrival of the product? Or will you be paying once the products have been shipped? And, what is the mode of payment?

Payments are one of the critical aspects of any overseas business. As a seller, you have to ensure that your products are sent halfway around the world, only to discover that the recipient rejects it or refuses to pay for it. As a buyer, you have to take the right precautions to ensure that the supplier receives your payment and fails to send the products.

The best method to avoid payment troubles is to ensure that the other party is trustworthy and genuine.

Mistake #7: Failing to Insure the Goods

Shipments get lost, products get stolen, goods get damaged, and so many things can go wrong when goods are sent across borders. Most people try to cut down costs by avoiding paying the high insurance premiums. They don’t bother getting insurance. This is a critical error as if anything goes wrong, you have no safety nets, and you’ll end up paying out of your pocket.

Mistake #8: Choosing the Cheapest Supplier

This is one of the biggest mistakes buyers make. If you find something that is too cheap, then be cautious. A deal that’s too good to be true isn’t true always.

When you partner with the cheapest supplier you come across, then you may face any one of the following scenarios:

  • You receive sub-standard, poor-quality products.
  • Your shipments may be delayed.
  • You may end up facing charges from customs officials, as the supplier may not have the required licenses to send products overseas.
  • Worst case, the supplier may abscond with your money, without sending you the required products.

To avoid all these, ensure that you always partner with a reputed supplier, who has been in the business for several years.

To Sum It Up

Exporting or importing products across international borders is a huge task, which requires plenty of thought and planning. Several things may often go wrong. Make sure to use this guide and avoid making any of these common mistakes.

Remember, that imports and exports require long-term relationships between the supplier and the buyer. Use this guide, to avoid making costly errors and take your business on the right track.

3 Warning Signs by Alok Tools that you’re dealing with a Wholesale Scam Supplier https://www.aloktools.com/3-warning-signs-by-alok-tools-that-youre-dealing-with-a-wholesale-scam-supplier/ Thu, 04 Oct 2018 12:02:25 +0000 https://www.aloktools.com/?p=77327 While procuring goods internationally, the last thing on your mind – is encountering a scam supplier. While that may seem outrageous, it does happen and sadly, too often. While there are tons of high-quality and dedicated wholesale suppliers, there are a few bad apples too out there.

Here, in this week’s post, have a look at the few common types of wholesale supplier scams, and Alok Tools–tools manufacturer in India also offer you tips on how to avoid these scams.

Staying Vigilant is Key

While purchasing wholesale goods, that too over international borders, there are plenty of opportunities for scam suppliers to rip you off. To avoid such misfortunes, the key is to stay aware. By being aware of the common types of wholesale supplier scams, you can easily spot one before opening your wallet.

Common Wholesale Supplier Scams

  1. The Drop Ship Scam

Today, there are plenty of suppliers who offer to drop-ship on your behalf. Indeed, drop shipping has changed the whole way international trades are carried out.

A few scammers take advantage of this. They accept your payment without shipping the products. Here’s the general modus operandi of a drop-shipping scam:

  1. A customer purchases a product from your online store or an online marketplace.
  2. Your wholesale supplier receives the payment for the purchase but doesn’t ship the goods.
  3. The customer doesn’t receive the product and notifies his credit card company of fraud and requests to refund for the same.
  4. You end up paying charge back fees to the customer as well as the product fees to the supplier.

The drop-shipping scam not only makes you pay double but also damages the reputation of your company. Customers begin to lose their trust in you.

  1. The Replica (or Counterfeit) Goods Scam

This scam has been going on for ages. You sign a supplier agreement with a wholesaler trusting that they provide you with legitimate, authentic and high-quality goods. On the other hand, when you receive the goods, you see that they are of poor quality and not worth the price.

You have no other option but to ship the product to your customers. When your customers receive the product, they find it is of poor quality, and give you low ratings. The worst case scenario here is – your customers may even end up suing you for fraud.

  1. The “Pay Now, Get Products Later” Scam

This is yet another common scam, and the victims are usually merchants who are just getting started. You come across a wholesale supplier online, and you place your order. The supplier sends you a PO asking you to pay for the goods before they can ship it out.

They give you several reasons for pre-payment – your products require raw material purchase, and so on. You end up paying the whole order but never receive your shipment.

Of course, not all suppliers who ask you for a pre-payment are scammers. In fact, several legitimate and genuine wholesale suppliers make it a point to get a pre-payment (at least a part of the whole payment) before they ship products, to avoid getting ripped by customers.

So, spotting this scam isn’t easy. Instead, of fighting for a zero pre-payment volunteer to pay half the payment now and the rest once you receive the products. Alternatively, if the supplier insists on full payment, then try to get a shipment confirmation before you pay the invoice.

Red Flags that you’re Dealing with a Wholesale Scam Supplier

Now, that you’re aware of the various scams, here are a few warning signs  to look for:

  1. Communication Gaps

One of the essential parts of doing business with a wholesale supplier is that you must be able to communicate with them whenever and however you want. Communication transparency and connectivity is key.

If you spot any gaps or difficulties in reaching to your supplier, then it pays to be alert. Here are a few red flags to look out for:

  • No phone numbers or email addresses on their website.
  • Phony contact information like wrong telephone numbers or emails with no response.
  • When you ring up the supplier, the person attending the call doesn’t give you his/her name. You may feel like you’re ringing up an individual and not a business place.
  • The supplier doesn’t reach back to you to answer your queries.

Make it a point to avoid suppliers with improper or unprofessional communication skills.

  1. Unprofessional Business Practices
  • The supplier doesn’t ask you for your business ID or tax ID. Genuine suppliers will want these details to ensure that they comply with the government norms and rules. Scammers, on the other hand, aren’t concerned with these details. All they are after is your money.
  • The company doesn’t oblige to your request for samples, even if you volunteer to pay for samples. They want only wholesale orders. Such companies often deal with replica or poor-quality goods. That’s why they don’t want to provide you with samples.
  • The supplier offers you outrageously low prices. If you find an offer that’s too good to be true, then it probably isn’t true.
  1. Lack of a Proper Website or Online Presence

This is one of the easiest ways to spot a scam supplier from a genuine one. Authentic wholesale suppliers have professional websites and a responsive online customer service team. If the website looks like it was patched up overnight, then you can spot that something is wrong.

Another way to identify scammers is to read reviews. Try to get in touch with the previous customers of the supplier to know more about them. Don’t just go in with reviews they put up online, as these reviews could be fake, just like the rest of the company.

Stay Watchful and Protect your Business from Wholesale Supplier Scams

Make sure to check out for these warning signs given by Alok Tools – best hand tool manufacturer, while dealing with online suppliers. If you get a gut feeling that something feels awry or suspicious, take the time to investigate it. Remember the time you spend today is better than dealing with a scammer and losing your business capital.

The 5 Essential Steps To Repair Your Own Tools https://www.aloktools.com/top-5-essential-steps-to-repair-your-own-tools/ Thu, 20 Sep 2018 08:14:16 +0000 https://www.aloktools.com/?p=77176 Repairing your tools by yourself is a great way to save money. However, repairing tools in the DIY method is no cake walk. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible. All you need are a few tricks and tips up your sleeve, and you’re good to go.

Here, in this week’s article, Alok Tools – tools manufacturers in India give you the right suggestions to help you repair your tools in the best way possible. Let’s get started.

  1. Decide whether the Repair is Worth It

This is the first factor you have to consider. Keep in mind that, you may get hurt in the process of repairing your tools by yourself. Additionally, you may even end up damaging the tool more in the process.

While both these scenarios may seem worst-case, it isn’t so. They happen more often than you think. To avoid this, make sure to familiarise yourself with the procedures before attempting to repair it.

Also, remember that by taking a DIY approach to the repair, you invalidate a warranty. Even, if you manage to fix it this time, you may run out of luck the next time your tool breaks. So, make sure to get the tool repaired at the manufacturer (or at an authorized service center), if the tool breaks down while under warranty.

  1. Make Sure that you have the Right Replacement Parts

Once you’ve decided to repair the tool, the first step involves going through the manufacturer’s instructions. The next step is to find the right replacement parts for it. If you aren’t sure of the parts involved, then check out the manufacturer’s manual. Most manufacturers post the parts breakdown in the manual or online.

If you know the tool’s model number along with the brand name, a simple Google search will lead you directly to the parts breakdown.

However, this is just the start. Even, if you can find the right part number, you may not be able to complete the repair. This is because manufacturers sometimes discontinue old part numbers as newer models of the tool are released on the market. If you’re lucky, you may be able to find an alternate replacement part number.

If you aren’t able to locate the right part number, don’t lose hope. Sometimes generic brand parts may fit your tool. Before you buy a random part (that looks similar to the one you’re searching for), we recommend that you contact your tool manufacturer to check if the replacement part will work. This will prevent you from spending on an expensive part online, only to find that it doesn’t fit.

  1. Have the Right Tools on Hand

Yes, you need tools to repair your tool. Make sure that you have the right tools on hand, before dismantling your broken tool. For instance, you may assume that you can unscrew the screws using the screwdriver you have at hand, only to find that the size doesn’t fit.

To avoid, searching here and there, in the midst of the repair process, make sure to assemble all the tools you need before beginning the repair process.

  1. Prep your Work Area

Ok, now that you’ve got all the replacement parts and necessary tools, the next step is to start fixing the broken tool. Yes, you can place everything on your kitchen table and begin the work. However, this isn’t the ideal approach.

Make sure that you dedicate a special place with sufficient lighting for the repair work. Start by cleaning your work surface. You don’t want any dirt, gum and other dust to tamper with the minute parts of your tool.

Arrange all the parts on the workspace in an orderly manner. If you have liquids nearby, move them away from the work area. Place a small tray (or bowl) to hold all the tiny screws and other components you remove.

Nothing is as frustrating as crawling around the floor looking for lost screws. Remember, even if you misplace a single, tiny component, you cannot put the tool back together.

Next, you have to factor in the electrostatic discharge safety. This is vital, especially if your tool has electronic components. If the work area is prone to static discharges, it can interfere with the components of your tool.

While ESD is not an issue with major tools, you have to factor it, especially while working with tools that have onboard electronic chips. To avoid, static discharge, you can wear a grounding wrist strap, or use an anti-static mat.

  1. Don’t Rush and Don’t Forget to Document the Repair Procedure

One important rule to keep in mind while repairing the tool is – don’t rush it. When you’re in a hurry, you’re likely to make mistakes. Make sure to start the repair process during a time, when you’re likely to be left undisturbed. This gives you time to consider what you’re doing, and plan what to do next. It’s ok to take a longer time to complete the procedure.

And, don’t force it. For instance, if a particular part won’t unscrew, don’t try to do it, by applying brute force. You may end up damaging the tool permanently. If a particular part doesn’t fit, double check whether you’re using the right part, instead of pushing it in.

Remember to document the procedure you use for dismantling the tool. Yes, we know that this may seem like an extra chore. But, it’s well worth your time, especially when you’re trying to put it back together.

Also, having a documented procedure makes it easy for the repair professional to fix it if something goes beyond your control.

Final Words by Alok Tools

If done the right way, repairing tools by yourself saves you both time and money. One word of caution though – it’s always better to be safe than sorry. So, make sure you’ve got the right gear and right tools on hand, before attempting the task.
