To achieve that perfect weld, you need more than a pair of hands. This is where – magnetic clamps come into the picture. They are used to hold metal (both sheet and tube) to create a variety of inside and outside angles. They are incredibly useful while soldering thin pieces of sheet metal or in getting a tack weld started. Besides holding the metal in place, they are also helpful in doing the layout work.

Magnetic clamps play a crucial role in a variety of projects – small and big. Here, in this article, we shine the spotlight on magnetic clamps – how to use, pros, types, and more.

What are magnetic clamps?

what-is-magnetic-clamps

As the name implies, magnetic clamps are powerful magnetic fields. They stick to all metals and can hold various angles – 45, 90, or 135. Generally, magnetic clamps contain samarium cobalt, neodymium, and alnico, which ensures that they are strong enough for professional welding.

Magnetic clamps hold metals in place, firmly. Thus, welders can continue their work hands-free, thereby making the welding process safer and more efficient. It’s easy to set up a magnetic clamp, and it provides an accurate hold.

How to use magnetic clamps for welding?

It’s quite easy to use magnetic clamps in welding. To start, you need to layout the workpieces that you want to weld together. Use a magnetic clamp to hold these pieces together before you commence the welding process. Since you don’t have to use your hand to hold the work, the welding process becomes neater and straighter, and above all, keeping the welder’s hands safe and away from the flame.

Pros of using Magnetic Clamps during Welding

There are several advantages of using magnetic clamps during welding. Let’s take a look at the significant benefits:

Enhance Welding Productivity

Using magnetic clamps increases productivity significantly. Welders don’t have to use their hands or get help from welding assistants to hold the workpiece. Also, magnetic clamps are incredibly easier and time-saving when compared to traditional screw-type clamps.

Easy to Use on Pipes and Irregular Workpieces

Using magnetic clamps makes it easier to weld in the middle of a pipe and other irregular structures. It’s a huge time-saver when working with large, oversized workpieces.

Magnetic Clamps make it easy to Ground the Base

Consider this application – when you’re working on pieces where only a portion of the base metal is exposed, say an automotive repair shop. Here, the body panel is not fully exposed, and the bare metal is revealed only in certain portions. Using magnetic clamps make the work easier and efficient.

Convenient when welding Sheets of Metal

Magnetic clamps are incredibly useful when welding sheets of metal together. You can quickly secure the workpiece with a magnetic clamp without the need for any elaborate fixture or jig. By using magnetic clamps, you reduce the overall cost of the process. You don’t have to spend on securing the required dogs and wedges for securing the workpiece. Similarly, it reduces labour costs significantly. Two-men jobs can be quickly done by a single person using the right magnetic clamps.

Guide to Using a Revolving Hole Punch on a Leather Belt https://www.aloktools.com/revolving-hole-punch-plier-usage-guide/ Thu, 12 Mar 2020 14:02:10 +0000 https://www.aloktools.com/?p=97382 Nothing is as annoying as a belt that doesn’t fit properly. At Alok Tools, the No.1 hand tools manufacturers and supplies in India we have a handy tool in our lineup – the revolving hole punch. With just a few punches, you can resize your leather belts and make them perfect for wear.

Whether you’re a professional leather belt maker or a DIY enthusiast, our revolving hole punch is the right choice for you. It’s fitted with hardened steel punches and chrome-plated steel pliers making it last for years to come and efficient to use.

Here, in this DIY guide, we explain how to use this handy tool.

Mark the Required Holes on your Belt

The general rule of thumb is that holes on a belt are spaced one inch apart. However, this isn’t a hard and fast rule. You can alter the spacing to suit your requirements. It’s highly recommended that you choose a specific interval and stick to it. For instance, if you opt for holes that are ¾” apart, then ensure that all holes in the belt are spaced at this distance.

Make use of a ruler and a pen to mark the holes on the belt. While scoring the holes, ensure that you mark them on the inside of the belt.  This way, the holes are visible on the outer side, even if there are any mistakes.

Set the Desired Size on the Punch

The revolving hole punch from Alok Tools has six different sizes you can set. The hole punches range from 5/64” to 3/16”. The next step is to look at your belt and the size of the prong. The holes have to be big enough so that it can slip through the prong. Hence, the holes must be bigger than the diameter of the prong.

If you are not sure of the prong size, always set it to the smallest size and then increase it later. Remember that it’s quite simple to move to a thicker punch. On the other hand, holes once made cannot be made smaller. Always start with small holes and then increase the size if required.

The Actual Punching

Once you have marked the position of the holes and set the desired size, the next step is to punch the holes. One huge benefit of using a revolving hole punch is that it does all the work. Anyone can use it easily without the need for applying a large force. The revolving hole punch from Alok Tools works on spring-loaded action, meaning the user doesn’t have to use high pressure to operate it.

Place the hole punch in line with the marked hole and give the handle a firm squeeze. Press slowly at first and let the strength of the spring guide you. Within a few seconds, you would have created your first hole – perfect and clean. Once satisfied with the size of the hole, you can repeat this process with the next hole.

Once you are aware of the process, punching holes becomes effortless. You can finish punching holes on any belt within a few minutes. Irrespective of whether you are adding holes to your favorite belt or creating holes on a new belt, using a revolving hole punch from Alok Tools will help you finish the job effortlessly and with precision.

Make sure to follow the instructions in this guide, and if you need any further help, you can get in touch with Alok Tools, the maker of the best hand tools in India.

Happy punching!

What is C-Clamp?

industrial-hand-tools-manufacturerAlso known as G-cramp or G-Clamp, it’s a type of device that is used to hold a metal or wood workpiece. It’s mainly used by welders and carpenters. If you’re wondering why it’s known as “C” and not any other alphabet – well, the reason for the name is quite simple. The tool looks like the letter “C” thanks to its unique C-shaped frame. When considered along with its screw, it looks like the capital G, and hence it’s also known as G-clamp.

How is it made, and how does it work?

engineering-tools-manufacturers-in-india
It’s generally made using cast iron or high-quality steel. At the top of the C frame, it has a small flat edge. At the bottom of the frame, there is a threaded hole into which the screw goes in. One end of the screw has a flat edge that is similar to the flat edge at the top. The other end of the screw has a small metal bar that is perpendicular to the screw. This flat metal bar gives the leverage for tightening the screw.

When the clamp is closed completely, the flat end of the screw comes in contact with the flat edge of the frame. The object to be held firmly is positioned between the top and flat edges and is held in place securely by tightening the screw.

The screw plays a crucial role in the operation of the tool. The top edge of the tool is positioned on the object to be held. Then, the tool operator tightens the screw until the object is held satisfactorily. To remove the object, the screw is rotated in the opposite direction.

Applications of C-Clamp

engineering-tools-manufacturersThe C-Clamp is a versatile tool and is used across industries. It can be used in any workplace that requires a firm grip on the workpiece. While welding and carpentry are two major applications of the C-clamp, it’s not limited to it.

Here are some other creative uses of C-Clamp:

  • Use it as a pipe wrench – tighten the c-clamp against a pipe and use it to twist it
  • To ferry project materials from and to the workplace – the handles give you better leverage while carrying heavy materials
  • Secure doors
  • Clear a blocked kitchen sink – tighten a C-clamp on the hose before plunging it.
  • To anchor tablecloths firmly to the table

Handle your Hand Tools the Right Way – Basic Safety Rules and Operational Techniques https://www.aloktools.com/hand-tools-handling-tips/ Mon, 18 Feb 2019 07:05:19 +0000 https://www.aloktools.com/?p=78054 There is a misconception that hand tools are dangerous to use. But, the truth is that hand tools aren’t dangerous by themselves. In fact, misusing tools or using poor quality tools is the leading cause of accidents by tools. When used correctly and with the proper safety measures, you can drastically reduce the chances of accidents.

Here, in today’s post, we give you a list of the basic safety rules to keep in mind, while using hand tools.

General Safety Rules to Follow While Using Hand Tools

1. Inspect Your Tools before the Job

Never use a damaged or defective hand tool. Make sure that the tool you are about to use is in good working condition. Practice the habit of inspecting your tools both before and after use. If you are re-sharpening or re-fitting tools, make sure that you follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

2. Choose the Right Tool for the Job

Make sure you are using the correct tool for the task. Different tools are specifically designated for specific tasks. Replacing one tool for another is dangerous and could lead to accidents.

3. Always wear the Right PPE

Personal protective equipment like hard hats, safety goggles, and overalls are a must to protect you while using hand tools. This gear helps you from sustaining injuries in case you lose grip of the tool during operation.

4. Don’t Modify/Alter your Tools on Your Own

Removing safety clips or finger guards from hand tools can prove to be disastrous. Don’t cover up or paint tools on your own, as this prevents you from noticing cracks and chips in it.

5. Handle your Tools with Care

Tools aren’t toys. Don’t throw or toss it to a co-worker. While passing tools between co-workers, ensure that you let them know that you are passing it.

6. Transport and Store Tools the Right Way

When carrying tools up a ladder, don’t pass it from one person to another or lift it by hand. Instead, use a bag or bucket to hoist tools from the ground to the workers above. While working at heights, ensure that you don’t leave tools lying out in the open. This could present a fatal hazard to the workers below.

Wherever possible, use clamps and bench vices to secure tools to a steady surface, to avoid slipping. Don’t carry pointed tools in your pocket. Always use a cart or a toolbox. Instead, of keeping extra tools lying around, store them in a handy tool case.

7. Have Space

When working with hand tools, ensure that you have sufficient room to operate without dashing against other objects, walls or co-workers. Plant your feet on a stable surface, provide yourself with adequate support, while using hand tools.

8. Clean your Workspace

Don’t leave idle tools lying around the job site. A cluttered and messy workplace is one of the main reasons for tripping, falls and accidentally dropping tools on one’s hands and legs.

9. Get the Right Training

While hand tools like wrenches, chisels, bench vices, hacksaws, hammers, pricks, pry bars, scrapers, and others seem easy to use, several proper techniques must be followed. Ensure that your employees are provided with the right training to handle these tools.

10. Above all, Buy Quality Tools

This cannot be stressed enough. Any hand tool you choose should be made of high-quality steel, heat-treated and properly built. With Alok Tools, you are assured of the finest craftsmanship and engineering precision. With the prestigious ISO 9001:2015 certification, you not only get the best value for your money but the best quality tools, that last for years to come without any troubles.
